Universiteit Utrecht x Eco Giving
Implementation of an Omnichannel E-commerce Platform with Shopify
Challenge
Eco Giving, a supplier of merchandising products, manages the Utrecht University webshop. They offer a variety of unique university souvenirs, ranging from sweaters to notebooks. The main challenge for Eco Giving was managing orders coming in from three different channels: the online webshop, physical stores, and the procurement platform (SAP/GHX).
Eco Giving needed a partner to integrate all sales channels into a single e-commerce platform, requiring both technical expertise and strategic insight to create a true omnichannel sales experience.

Three Sales Channels
For the procurement platform, Eco Giving specifically sought an OCI/cXML PunchOut integration. This allows users to be redirected from the procurement platform to the webshop, where they can assemble a shopping cart that is then finalized back in the procurement platform. This route enables University Utrecht staff to easily create orders.
Shopify Solution
For both online and physical sales, Redkiwi proposed a Shopify solution. Shopify is a cloud-based e-commerce platform that helps businesses of all sizes set up, manage, and grow an online store. With Shopify, Eco Giving can centrally process all orders, regardless of the sales channel.
Additionally, Shopify offers fully automated translations to support a multilingual webshop.
Teamwork makes the ....
Jasper Verbunt collaborated with Eco Giving on this project. “The team was energetic, making the collaboration very enjoyable,” Jasper said. Shortly after going live, the team initially thought tests were still ongoing because orders kept coming in. However, these turned out to be real orders, confirming the effectiveness of the new setup. Jasper proudly reflects on a quick implementation with limited investment for the client. “I love seeing orders come in daily across all channels.”
Moving forward
Not only was Jasper pleased with the smooth collaboration, but following the success of the Utrecht University webshop, Eco Giving is now considering participating in new tenders at other universities or colleges.
Impact
The Eco Giving case illustrates the importance for organizations to invest in technological solutions that enhance operational efficiency while providing a seamless customer experience across various sales channels.
